Advantages Of Quonset Steel Buildings
A lot of people past age 50 remember quonset huts. A quonset hut is defined as a self-supporting building or structure with an arch shape to it.
In a structure made like a quonset hut, there are usually no interior posts, support beams or trusses. The outside material of the building simply is the building.
Assembling Quonset Steel Buildings is pretty easy. The first thing that needs to be done is each section of the arch needs to be laid out. After that, bolting them all together is pretty simple.
Once bolted, you have the first full arch. At that point, Quonset Steel Buildings foundations are attached to the arch. Each arch will be assembled the same way, on the ground, pulled up and then attached to the foundation. There are two styles of Quonset Steel Buildings available. The first, of course, would be the old-fashioned steel building with the full arch. This building has a semi-circle shape. The second type of building available is the newer modified version. This version has straight walls and then a curved room. The roof is traditional gable and peak. This one is shaped somewhat like a mailbox. The modified version of the Quonset Steel Buildings are becoming quite popular. With this style comes no wasted space on the sidewalls because the walls are straight. Depending on the width of the building you need will determine which style of building you can go with. The modified version of the Quonset Steel Buildings is available in only certain sizes. Quonset Steel Buildings can be attached to the foundation in two different ways. The first way would be with what is called a baseplate connector. This connector gets bolted to a concrete pad and then the building bolts to the baseplate. The more traditional way to attach your prefabricated structure to the foundation would be to use the trough method. What this entails is when the foundation is made for the concrete, you would install a reserve curb about 6 inches wide. When you assemble the arches, you would set them into the trough. Once all the arches are set into place, you would go back in and fill the trough on the inside. Some advantages to Quonset Steel Buildings would be that they are the cheapest with regard to steel structures today. They are also pretty easy to assemble. Further, these buildings are easy to expand and are easy to disassemble and move if necessary. A good choice for smaller size buildings as well, Quonset Steel Buildings are secure and a good choice for a building that needs to withstand heavy winds.
